Floyd is 13. He likes to sing and play basketball. He is always at “Regeneration,” a very exciting weekly youth service at his church. He has endured many trials in his young life. Floyd’s father left for Manila 5 years ago. Floyd was only 8 and in 3rd grade. His father said he was going to find work in Manila, but they never heard from him again. After many long months, they realized he had abandoned them and likely started another family. A mother now had 5 children to care for and no income. Floyd had to quit going to school because there was no money for tuition, school supplies, uniforms and other requirements.
Before school started last year, one of our pastors wrote us about Floyd. He was 12 years old and had not been in school since 3rd grade. The pastor hoped someone would sponsor him so he could go back to school. Someone did sponsor Floyd. He just finished 4th grade. One time during the year, he missed 2 weeks because of family problems. The school was ready to suspend him and not let him finish the year. The pastor intervened. He finished the year with excellent grades and honors!!
Another exciting thing about the past year? Floyd gave his life to Jesus!
What would have happened to this boy if no one had sponsored him? There are many children like Floyd who need our help. You can have a life changing impact on a young life like this one.
We are praying for 500 additional children to be sponsored in 25 locations on four islands in the Philippines by the end of May. That will give us a total of 1000 sponsored children. Can you help? The cost is a mere $30 a month / $360 for a year. To have a life-changing impact on a life, go to Sponsor A Child. We need individuals, churches, businesses to sponsor groups of children — 5, 10, 15 or more if we are to reach that many children. Pray with us about it.
