Education Breaks the Cycle of Poverty

Boy walking on dumpsite

A smoking garbage dump is not a place for a child. Yet too many children in the world live in such places. Without an education, the boy in this photo will likely spend his life digging through trash. A sponsor who provides education and a pastor who teaches about Jesus can forever change the life of a child like this one. Education breaks the cycle of poverty.

Sponsored students this year in this one community — 93.  The pastor in this small city in the Philippines tells us he has 115 more very poor children who need to be sponsored for the next school year which begins the first week of June.  This pastor ministers to families living in severe poverty – in two different garbage dumps and in squatter communities along the sea shore.  The photo here is of one of the garbage dumps where he ministers.  Without an education, the future of most of these children would be a repetition of the intense poverty into which they were born.  We have a chance to change that.

Sponsoring a child gives them hope for the future.  Instead of becoming trash scavengers or shell gatherers, vulnerable to human traffickers and others who would take advantage of them, they dream of and prepare for becoming teachers, soldiers, pastors, seamen and nurses.  They become leaders in the community, leaders who have been discipled by pastors who care for them and their families.  One young 10 year old boy who is sponsored told me recently he wants to finish his education and get a good job so he can help other kids like him.

Could we add 115 more children for this pastor to care for?  We are praying for a total of 500 additional children to be sponsored in the Philippines by the end of May. That will give us 1000 children.  Can you help?  The cost is a mere $30 a month.  To have a life-changing impact on a life, go to Sponsor A Child

About kathybohlin

I am passionate about helping poor children in Philippines come to Jesus, get an education and become all God created them to be. Right now our ministry (Fullness in Christ Ministries) helps almost 900 of the poorest of the poor children in the Philippines. They are over seen by 24 national pastors whom we consider trustworthy and competent. There is accountability. I am single and contented with that. Also I want everyone to know how wonderful Jesus is!!
